Washington in 5th at Men's West Regional Golf Tournament

FRESNO, Calif.-Senior Scott Kral showed the Huskies he was back in business as he led Washington to a fifth-place standing at the NCAA West Regional golf tournament. Kral equaled his low round of the season and sits in a six-way tie for third after contributing a score of 68 to the Washington team score of 283. BYU leads the event after carding a 276, while Arizona threatens for the title in the runner-up slot with an 8-under score of 280.
Freshman Derek Berg recorded the second lowest mark for the Huskies, and sits tied for 24th place with score of 71. Washington sophomores Gordy Scutt and Troy Kelly are tied for 33rd at par, and freshman Derek Berg carded a 75 for a 78th-place standing.
BYU's Manuel Merizalde and Parker McLachlin of UCLA matched each other on the front and back nine, and lead the individual field with 5-under scores of 67. Six men, including Kral, are one stroke back from the lead after each taking 68 strokes on Fresno's Riverbend Golf Club course. Pac-10 Champion Paul Casey of ASU is tied for 33rd with Scutt and Kelly.
The teams will continue to battle for the 10 team and two individual national tournament invitations with two more rounds of competition Friday and Saturday.
