UW Men's Golf Still in the Running at West Regional

FRESNO, Calif.- The Washington men's golf team finished the second day of the NCAA West Regional tournament in eighth place with a total of 569, and have a chance for a spot at nationals. Senior Scott Kral shot the lowest round for the Huskies for the second straight day and is tied with five men in 4th place. Brigham Young is leading the team field with a score of 557, one stroke better than Arizona's 558-stroke effort.
Competition remains fierce in the individual category with three men tied for the lead. Arizona's Derek Gillespie, UCLA's Parker McLachlin and Alex Kuyumjian of USC all are poised for medalist honors with 137 strokes each.
For Washington, freshman Derek Berg is tied with several golfers at 27th, including the Pac-10 Champion from Arizona State, Paul Casey. Sophomore Troy Kelly finished a second round at par and sits tied for 39th with a score of 144.
The final round of the West Regional will be held tomorrow. Only 10 teams and two individuals will be selected to continue to the national tournament.
