SEATTLE - The UW women's soccer team played its second spring game at Seattle Pacific on Wednesday night. Junior Alex Webber (Poway, Calif.) scored an early goal but the game ended in a 1-1 tie.

"This game was a lot like the Portland game in that we got into a very good attacking rhythm immediately and created scoring opportunities and produced a goal," said head coach Lesle Gallimore.
Webber scored off of a low corner kick by junior Kelli Stewart (Mukilteo, Wash.) to take an early 1-0 lead over SPU.
"I was surprised when the ball came through because it was a low corner kick but when it did I calmly collected it off a bounce and hit it. I didn't think I made it at first because I heard it hit the post but thankfully it went in," said Webber.
The Huskies' momentum began to crash towards the end of the first half as the Falcons continued to fight.
"There was a lull and I felt we lost our rhythm. We weren't able to link well from side to side and things became stagnant. The second half started a bit similarly but then I thought we had some decent opportunities and a great goal called back for offside," Gallimore added.
In the second half, SPU came back to tie it 1-1 when forward Kellie Zakrzewski received a through ball that she slotted in the lower left corner.
"They scored on a counter attack on a bad giveaway when we had numbers forward," said Gallimore. "SPU is very dynamic up front and they did well to punish us for our mistake. Their forwards really tested our young back line today and they'll have to improve from this performance.
Although the Huskies offense created several opportunities in front of the net, the game ended a 1-1 tie. Fortunately during spring games the Huskies have the chance to try different line ups and players in certain positions.
"We always want to play to win but spring games are to be kept in perspective. We are testing a lot of different players and giving them the opportunity to show they can make a case for contributing in the fall. We will be without (Lindsay) Elston and (Kate) Deines for our SU game, so there will be an even bigger opportunity for players to show their stuff."
UW travels to Seattle University Friday, April 29 at 5 p.m. for the third spring game of the 2011 season.
