THIS WEEK: The Washington baseball team (7-19 overall, 0-3 Pac-10) returns to the road to play a Pac-10 series for the second straight weekend. This Friday through Sunday, the Dawgs will take on Oregon (14-12, 0-3 Pac-10) in a three-game series at PK Park. The UW opened conference play with three closes losses (2-1, 5-3, 3-2) at then-No. 24 UCLA last weekend while the Ducks were swept by fifth-ranked Arizona State in Tempe. On Tuesday, Washington fell to SeattleU, 6-4 in 10 innings, marking the ninth straight UW game decided by one or two runs. Game times in Eugene this weekend are 6 p.m. on Friday, 5 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday. All three games from Eugene will air live in the Puget Sound area on KKNW AM-1150 and both Saturday and Sunday's game will be carried live on Comcast SportsNet Northwest television, which is channel 179 on Puget Sound-area Comcast cable. Senior righty Jacob Clem will start on the mound for the UW Friday at Oregon and sophomore RHP Aaron West goes on Saturday, with Sunday' starter yet to be determined. Next week, the Dawgs play SeattleU Tuesday at Bannerwood Park before hosting California next weekend. Here's a look at this weekend's games:

COACH MEGGS: Lindsay Meggs was named the Huskies' head coach in July of 2009, just the third different UW head coach in 34 years. In 2010, his first season in charge, he improved the Huskies' season record by five wins over the previous year, going 28-28 against a schedule ranked as high as third-toughest in the nation. Meggs came to the UW after having spent the previous three seasons at Indiana State and the 13 prior to that at Chico State, where he won NCAA Division II national championships in 1997 and 1999. He helped Chico to the D-II College World Series seven times and won the league eight times. At Indiana State, he was named Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year in 2009 after guiding the Sycamores to a second-place finish, their highest since 1998. Currently, he boasts a 650-354-4 record over 17 seasons as a four-year college head coach. He'd previously served as head coach at Long Beach City College and Oxnard College. Born in San Jose and a graduate of Saratoga (Calif.) High, Meggs played four seasons as the starting third baseman at UCLA. He was drafted by the Brewers in 1983, and then again by the Royals after his senior year in 1984. Meggs is joined by assistant coaches Dave Nakama, Dave Dangler and Jordon Twohig.
SERIES HISTORY: The UW's history vs. Oregon is long, but given that the Ducks didn't field a team from 1982 through 2008, the teams haven't played as many times as the UW and Washington State and Oregon State. The Ducks hold a 136-123-1 advantage in the all-time series. Last year, the Ducks and Dawgs split a pair of non-conference games in Eugene early in the schedule. Oregon won the first game, 6-2, and the Huskies won the second, 5-3. Later in the year the conference series in Seattle, Washington won game one, 13-11 in 11 innings (both teams scored four in the 10th and a two-run homer from Chase Anselment ended it) before the Ducks won the next two, 5-2 and 5-2. In 2009, the UW and Oregon played two non-conference games in Seattle, two games in Portland as part of a tournament (a 6-4 Oregon win and a 5-1 Husky victory) and three games in Eugene in Pac-10 play. The Huskies swept the two games in Seattle early in the season, winning 5-3 and 10-2. In the Pac-10 series in Eugene, the Huskies swept the three games, 11-2, 2-0 and 6-3.
ANOTHER TOUGH SCHEDULE: Each year, Washington boasts one of the toughest schedules in the season, if only by virtue of playing the rigorous Pac-10 Conference. According to well-regarded college baseball website, boydsworld.com, the Huskies have the eighth-toughest schedule in the country, though all of the Pac-10's team rank highly. The Huskies, of course, face the nine other Pac-10 teams. Six Pac-10 teams (Arizona, Arizona State, California, Oregon, Stanford, UCLA) were ranked in either the Baseball America and USA Today coaches' preseason polls, or both. Oregon State and Washington State also each also received votes in the coaches' poll. Additionally, the Huskies traveled to Cal State Fullerton for a three-game series at Husky Ballpark. The Titans were ranked in the top 10 in both polls.
WHERE ARE THEY FROM?: Washington's baseball roster has traditionally been heavily dominated by in-state players. The 2011 team is much more diverse than what had been the norm for many years as, of the 35 players, nine players completed their high school career in a state other than Washington (generally over the past few decades, that number has averaged closer to two or three out-of-state players). So, 26 Huskies come from in-state while there are six from California and one each from Minnesota, Indiana and Utah. Of the 26 players from the Evergreen State, 25 come from west of the Cascades, (the western half of the state).
