| Day 1 Recap
GOLD RIVER, Calif. - The Huskies have returned to the 2,000-meter course at Lake Natoma, where a place in the Grand Finals awaits the fastest crews. Washington earned their spot in the semis in all three races, although the varsity eight needed the benefit of the afternoon repechage. In the semifinals, the top three crews in each heat advance to he Grand Finals; the rest fall to the Petite Finals.
In the varsity eight semis, the Huskies will be in Lane 6 and face Princeton, Southern California, California, Virginia and Wisconsin.
In the second varsity eight semis, the Huskies are matched up with California, Stanford, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Washington State and Yale. The extra boat in the heat is because the NCAA had initially relegated the Golden Bear's second eight after it weighed in light on Friday. Despite winning its heat, Cal had to race in the repechage, where it finished second. So the NCAA allowed the fourth place crew in the rep (Yale) to advance as well.
The varsity four will face Cal, USC, Princeton, Brown and Michigan.
