University of Washington
Valuable walk-on enters her third year after lettering her first two seasons ... led the team with 17 doubles wins last season ... during the fall, went 5-3 in singles and 2-5 in doubles.
2006-07 (Sophomore):
Started every dual match for the Huskies, going 5-16 in singles predominantly at Nos. 4 and 5 ... was 2-0 in two matches at No. 6 singles, which happened to be UW's two Pac-10 wins over Oregon and Washington State ... defeated Arizona's Tina Razloznik at No. 5 singles in Pac-10 dual ... paired with Tara Simpson, was UW's most successful doubles team, going 11-10 in dual play and 3-1 in tournament action for a 14-11 overall record ... Wong and Simpson were 9-10 at No. 2 doubles at 2-0 at No. 3, and earned conference wins over Arizona State, Oregon, and Washington State ... with Simpson, won seven of first eight matches from the fall into the spring including a 3-0 mark at the Hawaii Tournament ... also was 3-3 with Allison Rainey, for a combined record of 17-14 ... Wong and Rainey made the semis of the Duck Classic in the fall.
2005-06 (Freshman):
Primarily played in the No. 5 spot (1-16)... won all games playing at No. 6 (3-0)... 0-2 versus ranked opponents... 8-21 overall singles record... won in the 1st round of the ITA NW Regional Championship...also moved on to the second round of the Husky Invitational...went 1-3 in the Wailea Classic... notched only singles point of the match against Rana El Derwy of BYU...played doubles in the No. 3 spot with Stephanie Svanfeldt going 3-11 and with Allison Rainey going 2-5... advanced into the second round of doubles play with Svanfeldt at the ITA NW Regional Championship.
Before Washington:
Three-year letterwinner in tennis at West Seattle High School...named Seattle PI Spring Sports Most Valuable Player...as a sophomore won the 3A state singles title, while leading her squad to a third place state finish...third-place finisher in 2002 state singles championship...won Metro Doubles title as a junior...played 10 years for the Boeing Tennis Club and two years at the Seattle Tennis Club...also a two-year letterwinner in basketball.
Personal: Melinda M. Wong...daughter of Diane and Randy Wong...father is a fire fighter and played tennis at Seattle University...younger sister Alanna...interests include movies, music and spending time with friends.
