Player Bio: Darren Sawatzky - University of Washington Official Athletic Site

Darren Sawatzky begins his third year as a volunteer coach on the Huskies' staff.
A former MLS player and member of the Seattle Sounders, Sawatzky was a four-year letterwinner at the University of Portland from 1991-94. During his tenure there, he was a member of three NCAA Tournament teams and the 1992 West Coast Conference Championship team. Sawatzky was also an All-WCC selection, as well as a WCC Scholar Athlete. He was voted the team's Most Inspirational Player during his senior season. After graduating from Portland in 1994 with a bacehlor of science degree in organizatonal communication, Sawatzky played stints in the MLS with the New England Revolution (1996-97), the Dallas Burn (1998) and the Colorado Rapids (1999). He also played professionally for hte Oregon Surge (USISL), Leicester City (England), Hershey Wildcats (A-League), the Portland Timbers (A-League) and the Seattle Sounders (A-League). Sawatzky was also in player pools for both the Olympic and National team during his career.
Prior to coming to Washington, Sawatzky served as the Director of Training for the Highline Heat Soccer Club. He is currently the boys' head soccer coach at Thomas Jefferson High School and led the squad to the 2005 4A State Championship title this past year.
Sawatzky and his wife, Kelly, have a daugherty, Kylie (6) and a son, Skyler (3).
