Richey Records Fourth Straight PDL Victory With Timbers U-23
PORTLAND, Ore. - The Timbers U-23s won its fourth straight match to open the 2012 Premier Development League season after a 2-1 victory over Vancouver Whitecaps FC U-23 at the University of British Columbia's Thunderbird Stadium on Saturday. Timbers U-23s defender Chris Harms scored the first goal in the 11th minute and forward Clark Phillips recorded the game-winning strike in the 75th minute.
Current Husky and starting goalkeeper Spencer Richey recorded four saves to lead the Portland Timbers U-23s (4-0-0, 12pts) to victory in their first road contest of the season. Portland is currently in first place in the PDL's Northwest Division. Through the first four games of the season, the Timbers U-23s defense has allowed just two goals. Richey logged his PDL-leading fourth win of the season as starting goalkeeper. Last Thursday, the Timbers U-23s defeated the defending PDL champions Kitsap Pumas 4-0 at home. Another match-up is set for the Timbers U-23s and the Whitecaps FC U-23, this time at JELD-WEN Field on Friday, June 1. The match is part of a Health and Fitness School Day, presented by Providence Sports Care Center; kickoff for the special daytime match is 11 a.m. PT.
