Former Husky standout Christoph Palmanshofer returned to his alma mater as an assistant coach during the 2023-24 season, joining Head Coach Rahim Esmail's staff.
In his second season working with Esmail, Palmanshofer helped the Dawgs make it back to the NCAA Championships for the first time since the 2022 season. The Dawgs put together an impressive 17-9 campaign, going 8-5 in their first season in the Big Ten to finish fourth, and then reached the Big Ten Championship semifinals. Washington's No. 37 year-end ranking was its highest since 2013.
In Palmanshofer's first season back on Montlake, the Huskies were 9-15 with several close 3-4 losses, but earned a big home upset over USC. The Huskies were led by All-Pac-12 First Team selection Cesar Bouchelaghem, and Second Team pick Dzianis Zharyn. As a doubles tandem, the two ranked as high as No. 10 in February, becoming the first Husky doubles duo to reach the top-10 since 2005, back when Palmanshofer was on the roster.
Palmanshofer, originally from Austria, came to Seattle in the fall of 2001 and lettered the next four years for the Huskies, helping UW reach the NCAA Championships round of 16 three of his four seasons, in 2002, 2003, and 2005.
He broke into the Top-40 of the ITA national singles rankings during his senior year, reaching a high of No. 37, and finished at No. 66 playing primarily second and third singles. He was named to the All-Pac-12 Second Team that season. Palmanshofer also made the ITA Northwest Regional singles semifinals in 2003.
Palmanshofer had a career-high ATP pro rank of No. 665 in singles and No. 467 in doubles.
