Tasha Brown, one of the most respected teachers and player-development coaches in women’s college basketball, joins the University of Washington as Associate Head and Peak Performance Coach for the 2026–27 season. Brown reunites with head coach Tina Langley after previously helping guide Rice’s rise to national prominence. She brings more than 20 years of Division I coaching experience, a national championship pedigree, and a proven track record of developing student-athletes on and off the court.
Brown arrives in Seattle following eight seasons at UCLA, where she helped establish the Bruins as one of the nation’s elite programs. During her tenure, UCLA won more than 170 games, earned multiple NCAA Tournament appearances, advanced to the Final Four in 2025 and 2026, and captured the 2026 national championship. Working primarily with the Bruins’ guards, Brown played a key role in player development, scouting, defensive game planning, and game preparation. Her backcourts were consistently recognized for their leadership, efficiency, and composure in high-pressure situations.
A defining element of Brown’s coaching philosophy is her “Mind Gym” framework, a structured approach to mental performance that emphasizes intentional language, daily routines, and competitive focus. Designed to help student-athletes develop resilience, confidence, and consistency, the framework provides practical tools for navigating challenges in practice and competition. The approach gained national attention following UCLA’s championship season and has become a hallmark of Brown’s work in athlete development.
Before UCLA, Brown served as an assistant coach at Rice, where she and Langley helped lay the foundation for one of the most successful stretches in program history. During her time with the Owls, Rice captured conference championships, earned postseason appearances, and established itself as a nationally recognized program.
Brown also spent five seasons at Cincinnati, where she helped guide the Bearcats to NCAA Tournament and WNIT appearances while developing all-conference performers and professional players.
Her coaching résumé includes four seasons as head coach at Western Michigan, where she oversaw all aspects of the program. During her tenure, the Broncos produced an All-MAC selection and a MAC All-Academic honoree in each season.
Earlier assistant coaching stops included Wisconsin, UC Santa Barbara, Bradley, Dayton, and St. Ambrose. At Wisconsin, Brown helped lead the Badgers to a school-record 23 wins and a WNIT runner-up finish in 2006–07, marking the program’s first postseason appearance since 2002. Throughout her career, she has earned a reputation for developing perimeter players, building disciplined defensive teams, and fostering a culture of accountability and growth.
A native of Rock Island, Illinois, Brown played collegiately at Illinois Central College and Southwest Missouri State before completing her career at St. Ambrose, where she earned a degree in mathematics.
