Former Wisconsin varsity rower Allie Lohrenz joined the Washington coaching staff prior the 2020-21 season. The 2025-26 season will mark her sixth at Washington.
Lohrenz oversees the Huskiesβ renowned walk-on system, including the Hometown Husky program, which awards tuition scholarships to outstanding high school seniors from the state of Washington who have no experience in rowing.
In 2025, Washington made a big step, moving to the Big Ten Conference. The Huskies met the challenge, sweeping all seven conference championship finals to win the UW athletic department's first Big Ten title. The Huskies were only the second program in conference history to sweep every final, and the depth of the program over seven crews was a testament to Lohrenz' work not only as a recruiter, but as a novice rowing coach.
Washington also continued its run of top-five NCAA finishes in 2025, earning the fourth-place trophy at the national championship regatta.Β
In 2024, the Huskies finished fifth at NCAA Championships, as once again, all three crews advanced to the grand finals.
Β
In 2023. Washington headed to the NCAA Championships seeded No. 8 overall in the varsity eight and No. 4 in the second varsity eight. Had those seedingsΒ borne out, UW's streak of podium (top-four) finishes would end. Instead, the Huskies finished second in both of the top-two races, earning themselves the silver medal as a team as well.
In 2022, Lohrenz helped coached the Huskies to a fourth-place finish at NCAAs.
Β
In her first season at UW in 2021, she helped lead the Huskies to a Pac-12 Championship β her novice eight won gold at Pac-12s. In 2022, she helped lead UW to a second-place overall finish at the Pac-12 Championships and a fourth-place result at NCAA Championships. At Pac-12's, her novice eight finished just four one-hundredths of a second out of first place.
Lohrenz walked on to the rowing team at Wisconsin, where she served as team captain as a senior. She rowed at the Big Ten Championships all four years, winning a gold medal as a novice in 2016. She spent her junior and senior years in the Badgers' varsity eight, rowing at the NCAA Championships in 2018 and 2019.
Β
Lohrenz earned Academic All-Big Ten and a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar award in 2018 and 2019. She gradated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2019, with a double major in communication arts and environmental studies. She completed her UW master's degree in Intercollegiate Athletic Leadership at the University of Washington last year.
Β
After graduating from Wisconsin, she worked as a volunteer assistant rowing coach at the University of Minnesota, working with the novice rowers.
Β
A multi-sport athlete at the youth level, Lohrenz played basketball and lacrosse, and was an amateur national motocross racer. She attended high school in Germantown, Tenn.
