Sam Greenblatt joined the Washington women's rowing staff as assistant coach and first contact for recruits in the summer of 2022, after having served as a volunteer assistant with the UW novice rowers during the 2021-22 season.
During his time coaching at his alma mater, the Huskies have continued to perform at an extraordinarily high level.
In 2025, Washington made a big step, moving to the Big Ten Conference. The Huskies met the challenge, sweeping all seven conference championship finals to win the UW athletic department's first Big Ten title. The Huskies were only the second program in conference history to sweep every final.
Washington also continued its run of top-five NCAA finishes in 2025, earning the fourth-place trophy at the national championship regatta.
In 2024, the Huskies finished fifth at NCAA Championships, as once again, all three crews advanced to the grand finals.
In 2023. Washington headed to the NCAA Championships seeded No. 8 overall in the varsity eight and No. 4 in the second varsity eight. Had those seedings borne out, UW's streak of podium (top-four) finishes would end. Instead, the Huskies finished second in both of the top-two races, earning themselves the silver medal as a team as well.
Greenblatt has over 20 years of experience rowing or coaching at the collegiate, junior, and master levels. Over his career, he has developed athletes, from novices and walk-ons to five-year veterans at the University of Virginia, Oregon State, the Atlanta Junior Rowing Association, the Sammamish Rowing Association, and with the U.S. Junior National team.
Throughout his coaching career, Sam applies a philosophy that through a consistently challenging and systematic team-oriented approach, based on competition, mutual respect, detail driven fundamentals, and a focus on the process of development, his goal as a coach is not only to help athletes become better, more responsible people in life, but also to help them reach their individual potential for the benefit of the team.
During the 2021-22 season at Washington, Greenblatt helped coach a program that finished fourth at NCAA Championships, most specifically helping to oversee the varsity four. He also worked alongside the UW staff with the novice women's crew that finished second at Pac-12 Championships. After the season concluded, he traveled to England with the UW team that competed in several different events at the Henley Royal Regatta.
Greenblatt began rowing in 2000 at his high school in Ohio, and later went on to cox at the University of Washington, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in history. In 2014, he returned to Washington to earn a master's of education.
