Post Game Quotes
Head Coach June Daugherty
General Remarks: "Oregon hit their shots tonight and we struggled from the field. I thought their guards did a tremendous job of rebounding and that really hurt us and Jenny Mowe was unbelievable. She was a tremendous factor for them. We gave up seven offensive boards and I think she either scored or got to the line on all seven. Their guards hitting the glass like they did and Jenny Mowe coming up big definitely was the difference in the game.
On the last five minutes: We would hold them for 25 seconds and then the shot clock would wind down to about 5,4, 3 seconds and then it would go in. Jenny Mowe came up with some big offensive boards and had some big buckets down the stretch. It felt like we had a lid on our bucket."
On what adjustments Washington made against Jenny Mowe: "We really tried to mix up the defense as much as we could to try and get them out of rhythm and out of tempo. Their bread and butter is the high-low game so we just kept mixing it up. But I thought that Jenny Mowe just showed great determination that second half and she took over the game."
Husky guard Loree Payne
On Washington's run in the second half: "We made a big run in the second half but when it came down to the last five minutes our shots just didn't fall. That one run was really the only time in the game that we were really feeling it. We just didn't shoot well and that's how it goes sometimes. Basketball is a game of ups and downs and they had their runs and we had ours. It was close the whole game , but at the end they were making their shots just as the shot clock was going down."
On Oregon's second half adjustments: "In the second half it seemed like they were more collapsed in the key when I got the ball and I tried to adjust by kicking it out but we just didn't hit those shots. (Oregon forward Brianne) Meharry really stepped up when (Angelina) Wolvert went down. She is a good player and played her role and I just did what I could."
On Jenny Mowe: "She is a big girl. You look at me and Kellie (O'Neill) and we're not that tall. You just have to try to push her out but it's so hard because she is so big especially when they throw the lob passes. You can hardly get the ball."
Oregon Head Coach Jody Runge
On the injuries: "Angelina Wolvert has a second degree MCL sprain. She'll go home tomorrow to start rehab. Lindsey Dion has an ankle sprain and we're not sure to what degree that is. I think it rattled us early in the game and I expected our upper classmen and our bench to help the younger players to get organized. Once we settled in and had about 11 minutes to go, we started executing our offense much better and were hitting shots and going to the free throw line and we defended better."
On the last five minutes of the game: "I think when we went up on a two-possession and got that four-point lead and then hit a couple of shots at the end of the shot clock. I think the pressure shifted to them having to score. I think we did a nice job defending their three-point shooters and coming up with loose balls down the stretch and then made our free throws."
On Washington's 13-2 run: "I think we wanted to get organized as far as what we wanted to get executed on offense and talk about what we would see from them offensively. We wanted to get a pressed offense and not turn the basketball over."
On a Pac-10 road win: "I think that any time you can get a road win in the Pac-10 right now is a tremendous challenge and any one you can get is huge. It is just going to be one of those years in the conference where people who put it together at home and the more you can win on the road, you are going to be successful in the conference."
On Oregon center Jenny Mowe: "I thought she struggled a little early, but really toughed it up. She took a couple of licks to the face and really caught the ball when we needed her to and went to the free throw line late in the game. She was a force inside and I thought she did a good job rebounding down the stretch as well and really tipping a loose ball to someone."
Oregon Guard Jamie Craighead
On Angelina Wolvert's injury: "I was a little worried at first because she's a big emotional lift for the team, but I knew we had someone who would step up and take the responsibility."
Oregon Forward Brianne Meharry
Defeating the Huskies: "We're a tough team and we are all around a great , smart team. It's great to be a senior and never lost to the Huskies."
On playing the 3 position: "I've never played outside the key and it was a big adjustment rotating. But I learned really quick and I feel really comfortable out there now."
Oregon Center Jenny Mowe:
Comments on the game: "Physical, emotional, really nasty to each other- that's usually how it is with our rivalry. The last five minutes, I didn't really know what was going on, I just told myself to rebound."
