April 02, 2026 | Women's Basketball
SEATTLE – The University of Washington has agreed to a contract extension with women's basketball head coach Tina Langley, Director of Athletics Pat Chun announced today. The extension keeps Langley at UW through the 2032 season.
Langley has guided the Huskies through a period of steady growth, built on a foundation of values, personal development, competition, and the overall pursuit of excellence. Her consistent leadership has positioned Washington women's basketball for continued success in the evolving landscape of college athletics.
"Over the past five seasons, we have witnessed the continued ascent of Washington women's basketball under the leadership of Coach Langley," said Chun. "She has distinguished herself as both an exceptional coach and an outstanding leader. We are fortunate to have her leading our program and look forward to building on the strong foundation she has established."
Under Langley's guidance, the program has reached new milestones each season and emerged among the Big Ten and NCAA's top teams. Following one of the most significant turnarounds in program history between her first and second seasons, Washington carried that momentum into 2023 with the best start in program history. The Huskies also secured three consecutive Top-15 recruiting classes, including two McDonald's All-Americans, signaling both immediate impact and long-term sustainability.
After joining the Big Ten, the program continued its upward trajectory, earning back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances, developing five All-Conference players, and producing its first WNBA Draft pick since 2017. Washington's 22 victories this past season were the most for the Huskies since the 2016-17 season.
"I'm so grateful to President Jones, Pat, Erin [O'Connell], and our entire administrative team for the opportunity to continue being a part of the amazing community here at Washington. Their wholehearted commitment and support of our student-athletes and entire program is deeply felt," Langley said, "It is an honor and a blessing to serve alongside such a high-character group of young women and outstanding coaching staff. Washington is a special place, and we are so excited for what's to come."
Since arriving at Washington, Langley's commitment to building a values-based culture has been on display. Her emphasis on growing young women as competitors and leaders is reflected in the program's mission: to encourage, support, and develop servant leaders on their individual and collective journey of becoming.
Named Washington's 12th head coach on April 5, 2021, Langley brought a proven track record, including leading Rice University to its winningest five-year stretch in school history.
This extension reinforces the University of Washington's commitment to continuity, stability, and investing in leadership across its athletic programs.
