Postgame Quotes
WASHINGTON HEAD COACH Lorenzo Romar
General Comments:
"There's not a whole lot to say. A lot of you may view this as an 'easy win,' but for us, there were some things we wanted to get accomplished, and that was to play the right way for 40 minutes, and not be bored with success if we were to have success tonight. I thought our guys did a marvelous job of doing that. We got up, and instead of being content, we continued to play, and continued to work. We forced 30 turnovers. Thirty assists, too - I don't care who you're playing against, that's pretty good. I'm proud of our guys' effort tonight."
On Jamaal Williams:
"It's good for him to have a game like this going into Houston, because they will not be a walk in the park. We're going to need every bit of everything we've got to win that game."
On Brandon Roy:
"It was determined before that unless he was needed, we would give him a little rest. He played 18 minutes against N.C. State - probably three to four more than he should've - and we want to make sure he's rested. He will definitely play against Houston, and then we've got the break, where we're off for a few days, which is more time for him to strengthen that knee. We didn't want to risk anything tonight, so we sat him out."
On the defense during UW's 20-0 run in the first half:
"If we want to be worth anything, we've got to defend, and we've got to be the aggressors. Sometimes that hasn't worked out for us, but this year, most of the time, it has. Tonight, we were up, we were aggressive, we were playing the passing lanes, and we did it with relatively few fouls being called."
On the big plays:
"We scored 70 points in the paint - that's a lot of points in the paint. Will Conroy was finding guys, the rest of our team was finding guys. A lot of guys played well. We didn't have anyone score 40, but the points were distributed pretty evenly, I think. Bobby Jones gets a double-double with 14 rebounds - I think that's as many rebounds as anyone's had since we've been here."
SACRED HEART HEAD COACH DAVE BIKE
General Comments:
"I think you ought to call us back in about a week after we play UCONN and that will give you a pretty good comparison on "Huskies" that we're playing. The pressure that they put on and the way they're playing speaks for itself. We didn't handle it. That's as good of pressure as we've seen on Division I. They just took us apart with their defense. That was disturbing. Kids sometimes, as soon as you get flustered a little bit on offense, it's amazing that then they get worse on defense. They're thinking about it rather than say, 'Wait a minute, our offense isn't doing too good, we've got to pick it up on defense.' Washington took us out of the game. They took our offense out of the game and they took us out defensively because they did such a good job of putting pressure on the ball. We're disappointed we didn't put on a little better show with the hometown kids."
On a learning experience:
"I don't know how much we learned. It was reality. They played their game, this is how they play. They played it fast and tougher. One time a guy on their team, I forget who it was, he got hit and he took the hit and he still got the ball to the rim. The strength that they can play with, I don't know how much value that is except I guess we saw what the better half of the top-20 of the country can play."
