Today's game was the second of two exhibition contests for the Huskies. The Huskies played their exhibition contests using experimental rules: the three-point line was extended to 20 feet, 6 inches and the 10-second backcourt rule was used.
Redshirt sophomore guard Stefanie Clark was the Huskies leading scorer for the second-consecutive game. Clark led UW with 19 points after scoring 20 on Wednesday. Clark scored 15 of her 19 points in the first half. In the first half alone, she scored 15 points in 14 minutes played, shooting 5-for-6 from the field, and 4-for-4 from the line.
Freshman Sami Whitcomb made her first collegiate start today. Whitcomb is the second player used in the starting five in place of injured Dominique Banks. Stefanie Clark got the nod in UW's first exhibition on Wednesday. Whitcomb contributed 14 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two steals.
The Huskies continue to benefit from their depth, as each player scored at least five points - and the top two scorers came off the bench - Stefanie Clark with 19 points and Jill Bell with 16.
Washington averaged 109 points in their two exhibition contests. UW scored 111 versus Canadian collegiate team - the University of Regina - on Wednesday, before recording 107 points today versus the Australian Institute of Sport.
Four Huskies missed the game due to injury. Senior guard Cheri Craddock sat out after suffering a sprained ankle in UW's first exhibition Wednesday, sophomore forward/center Heidi McNeill and freshman guard Sara Mosiman have stress fractures in their left feet, and junior guard Dominique Banks will miss the first half of the season after surgery to repair stress fractures in her lower legs.
No. 25 UW will make its official season debut on the road, facing Marquette (Tuesday, Nov. 14) and No. 13 Purdue (Friday, Nov. 17).
