UW HEAD COACH June Daugherty
GENERAL COMMENTS:
"Preseason is always an interesting time, especially when you play an international team. Because you see things that you typically don't see a lot over here, especially in Pac-10 play. I saw a lot of improvement from the game Wednesday, to now. I like the fact that we defended a lot better and didn't put them in bonus. We did a much better job of moving our feet, which was a big key. I thought our offensive execution definitely picked it up a notch from last game, we were getting better shots, for the most part. I thought our front line really showed something today. It was great to see the team get the ball inside the way they did. They weren't doubled, so they went to work, and I thought they had a pretty good outcome inside. If we can keep that inside-outside going, and keep it going defensively, then we are going to be excited about what this team can do. I still think that we were a little soft about boxing out. I think we gave up too many O-boards and that is definitely a concern. If we want to run, we have to defend the rebound, that is an area we are going to have to clean up."
ON Cheri Craddock's INJURY:
"Cheri, yeah, Cheri Craddock is still out with an ankle, a pretty sore ankle. She sprained it about two weeks before, so it is the same ankle. She probably just needs a little more time on it. We would love to get Cheri back. The rotations were a little bit different, you saw Breanne Watson and even Jill Bill play a little bit. Right now we have, one, two, three, four guards sitting over there in sweatsuits not playing. We need Cheri and the rest of them back."
ON Jill Bell's HOT SHOOTING:
"I saw it in warm-ups, she was just really smooth and very relaxed in the game. When Jill is connecting like that, you can't give her the ball enough. She rises up and shoots over anybody. It is really great. She started out not being very poised inside, but outside on the perimeter she was really good. Then she settled down and started making better decisions inside, and it is great to have an athlete like that be able to shoot the basketball at the three, or step inside and be able to shoot over just about anybody."
FRESHMAN GUARD Sami Whitcomb
On Starting the Game: "It was fun to get out there and play and be part of the starting lineup, but I should be out there helping in any way that I can - starting or coming off the bench."
On Collision Under the Basket: "I think she was just running really fast to get back and couldn't stop fast enough."
On Being Physical: "It's really important to be physical and I think it raises the intensity level of the game also. I think we are definitely going to have to be in our later games. I think everyone actually does a good job of it."
JUNIOR GUARD Emily Florence
On This Year's Team: "I really like that we are running the ball and getting out in transition. Our guards are moving up the floor a lot faster, which we can get easy baskets, just lay ups. I think that is why we are scoring so much too - we have our wings getting out running the floor. Our four taking the ball out really quick helps me to push the ball up the floor. I think we are just athletic all around; all of our guys can drive. Our posts, you saw Jill, she can shoot over almost anyone. I think we have a really athletic team so I am excited about that."
