PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - Facing the top-ranked player in the nation in today's ITA All-American Championships semifinals, Husky junior Denise Dy was unable to get on track and had her quest for a national title ended one match short of the finals.
Juricova, the top seed and an NCAA singles finalist last year, claimed the 6-1, 6-2 victory to advance to Sunday's final. In Dy's previous national semifinal appearance, at the 2010 ITA National Indoor Championships, Juricova also blocked her path and went on to win that title. Dy did defeat Jurivoca, 6-3, 6-3, to win last year's ITA Northwest Region Championship but today's match did not follow that same formula.
Still, this marked the third time that a Husky has reached the semifinals in the last four major tournaments. Dy got her season off to a great start with three wins at the Riviera Tennis Club, defeating No. 33 Nazari Urbina of Texas A&M, No. 28 Ellah Nze of Duke, and No. 22 Marta Lesniak of SMU.
The next action for the Husky All-American will be at the Northwest Regional tourney where she will look to defend her title in two weeks in Palo Alto, California.
