Kim, Huskies Wrap Up Fall In Impressive Fashion

STANFORD, Calif. -- Washington wrapped up their fall schedule with a high note on Sunday, finishing second at the Stanford Intercollegiate hosted by Condeleezza Rice. The Huskies were 9 over for the 54-hole tournament at Stanford Golf Course to finish four strokes behind USC.

The Huskies, ranked second by Golfstat.com and No. 1 by Golfweek, entered Sunday's final round four shots back of the Trojans. They equaled third-ranked USC with a 2-over 286 and were unable to make up the necessary ground for the win.

Despite the disappointment of not being able to overtake USC, Coach Mary Lou Mulflur was more than pleased with her Huskies.

"We played well and battled down the stretch, but we came up a couple strokes short," Mulflur said after her team wrapped up a fall in which they compiled a 58-2 head-to-head record in four tournaments.

"We played really solid, but USC just played a little better."

The Huskies will have to settle for two wins and two second place team results as they head into hiatus before the spring schedule kicks back up in February.

Sophomore SooBin Kim led Washington's effort all weekend in the Bay Area. She shot 2-under 69 at the par-71 course to finish 4 under for the tournament and second on the leaderboard. The defending tournament champion only finished behind USC's Kyung Kim, who cruised to a three-shot victory.

"She played well," Mulflur said of Kim, who won the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational in the Huskies previous tournament. "The other Kim just played a little better."

The Huskies' Kim converted five birdies during the round, but also counted three bogeys. USC's Kim counted five bogeys and had just a pair of bogeys.

UW freshman Charlotte Thomas wrapped up a magnificent fall with her third top-10 in four tournaments. She shot a bogey-free 2-under 69 to finish 2 over for the tournament and tied for ninth.

Freshman walk-on Ying Luo shot her third-consecutive round of 73 to end up tied for 26th at +6.

Sophomore Cyd Okino and junior Kelli Bowers each shot 75 and ended up tied for 44th in the 90 person field. Both scored 223 (+10) for the tournament.

"They've played well and grown a lot as a team," Mulflur said about her young squad. "That is the best thing about this fall; the chemistry that was established and the competitiveness of the team."
