SAMMAMISH, Wash. -- The host Husky women's golf team took the first round lead in the sun-soaked Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational on Monday after shooting 5-over 293 at Sahalee Country Club. Washington has a four shot lead over UC Irvine heading into Tuesday's second round.
Washington and UC Irvine were the only two schools to post scores under double-digits over par. Stanford is third in the team race after an 11-over 299.
UC Davis, Oregon and San Jose State are tied for fourth at 14 over.
With her team in the lead following Monday's round that saw temperature reach the high 60s, Coach Mary Lou Mulflur's message was a familiar one to her squad.
"Stay in the moment," said Mulflur, whose team has never won the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational in 30 previous tries. "Sometimes when you are leading in a tournament you get ahead of yourself and you start thinking about what-ifs. I think that makes you play tight.
"We are hoping we can avoid that."

Golfweek's top-ranked team (No. 6 in Golfstat.com) put its depth on display at the 6,054-yard, tree-lined par-72 course. The Huskies swept the top-three individual spots, led by sophomore Cyd Okino.
Okino shot 2-under 70 and holds a one stroke lead over teammates Charlotte Thomas and SooBin Kim. The trio of Huskies were the only players that shot under par during day one.
"Our team is amazing this year. Just the amount of talent we have ... it's crazy because we are all fighting for five spots," Okino said.
"Last year we kind of knew the set five that would be traveling. Now, you don't know. There could be a different five and they are all good."
Kim's score did not count towards the Huskies team total. She is competing as an individual after finishing out of the top-five during Saturday's pressure-packed qualifying round. The Canadian did a nice job of responding to her omission from the lineup by notching three birdies, two bogeys and 13 pars.
"SooBin and Monica (Huang) both played well, and look at what we did as a team with being able to go deep into the lineup," Mulflur said. "It just makes such a big difference and we're really pleased."
Out of the five competing scorers, Okino, out of Punahou High School in Honolulu, made her biggest splash on the par three holes. She had two of her four birdies on the four par-3's.
"Everything was consistent," Okino said about her game. "I was hitting fairways and greens and making some putt here and there. It was just a very steady, consistent round."
Thomas nearly had a perfect scorecard. The freshman had three birdies and if not for a double-bogey on the par-four 15th hole, she might have walked away with the lead and a clean card.
After the Husky trio, a pair of Pac-12 golfers - Sally Watson of Stanford and Caroline Inglis of Oregon - is tied for fourth at even-par.
Sophomore Jennifer Yang turned in the third-best scorecard among the Huskies' five-man lineup. She shot 3-over 75 and is tied for 15th.
Huang, competing as an individual, equaled Yang's 75.
Freshman Yin Luo shot 77 and junior Kelli Bowers fired a 78. Luo is tied for 30th, while Bowers is tied for 35th.
Brittany Tallman, competing as an individual, shot 81 and is tied for 59th.
Tuesday's second round gets under way at 10:30 a.m. PT. Groups will tee off in foursomes from both the No. 1 and 10 tee boxes.
