UW Women Overcome Cold, Windy Conditions In Peoria

PEORIA, Ariz. -- The ninth-ranked Washington women's golf team fought through two rounds of tough conditions on Sunday and are tied for second, two-shots off the lead, in the Westbrook Invitational.
The Huskies are 9-over 585 overall after rounds of 291 and 294 at the par-72 Westbrook Village Golf Course in Peoria, Ariz. on Sunday. They are tied with 15th-rankedTexas Tech and two behind 7th-ranked Arkansas.
"Winds were blowing 25 miles per hour and it was pretty cold, so it wasn't exactly the easiest of conditions," said Husky Coach Mary Lou Mulflur.
"It's a very long day. You're out there 10 or 12 hours...we battled hard."
Washington, Texas Tech and Arkansas overcame the conditions better than any of the 13 teams in the field. The trio of schools is 18 shots clear of the field with one final round left to play.

Kansas State is the next closest team in fourth at 27-over.
Sophomore SooBin Kim led the Huskies efforts on Sunday. She is tied for first out of 75 individuals after rounds of 72 and 70, to end day one at 2-under 142. Kim is tied atop the leaderboard with Elin Arvidsson of Texas Tech and Gabriela Lopez of Arkansas.
Kim had seven birdies during her 36 holes of play, including three during her bogey-free back nine of the second round.
Freshman Cyd Okino are both in the thick of things after finishing the day at 144 (E). They are tied for fourth.
Thomas had rounds of 70 and 74, while Okino shot 73 and 71.
Thomas' first round 70 put her atop the leaderboard heading into the second round.
Sophomore Jennifer Yang shot 156 (+12) and is tied for 45th.
Redshirt-freshman Monica Huang is tied for 52nd after shooting 157 (+13). It was the first team competition of Huang's career.
Washington is paired with Arkansas and Texas Tech in Monday's final round. Golfers will tee off in a shotgun format started at 7:30 a.m. PT.
