KAPALUA, Hawai'i - Two Husky golfers are in the top-10 among individuals and the UW women's team opened up a five-shot lead over the rest of 18-team field after two rounds of the Anuenue Spring Break Classic on the Bay Course at Kapalua Resort in Maui.

Washington entered Tuesday's round second on the leaderboard, two shots behind Pepperdine, but the Husky five combined to score 2-under 286 at the par-72, 6,036-yard course. They are at 573 overall and the only team with two rounds under par.
"Today we started rather poorly, but we played well in the middle and it was a reasonably solid day," said Husky Coach Mary Lou Mulflur, who is battling the flu but remaining on the course with her team. "It was just another battling day for us. We have a bunch of non-quitters."
UCLA are on the Huskies' heels at in second with a score of 578, followed by Pepperdine (581) and Arizona State (582).
Having the 2011 NCAA champion Bruins on your heels could be nerve-wracking heading into the final round, but Mulflur and her gang will embrace the challenge on Wednesday.
"You want to play with the best and they have been playing well this spring," Mulflur said of UCLA. "But, there is no back down in us and I don't think we're afraid of anybody."
Jennifer Yang (9th) are among the top-10, while Ying Luo and SooBin Kim (T11th) are just outside entering Wednesday's final round.
Thomas led UW's efforts with a second round 69. She moved to 3-under for the tournament with a score of 141.
The freshman from England had a tremendous bounce-back round that saw her start slow, but finish with a flourish. Thomas started her round from the No. 2 tee box and promptly bogeyed three of the first four holes. She answered with three-consecutive birdies on No.'s 6 through 8, but bogeyed No. 9 to reach the turn at +1. From there, Thomas was impeccable with another string of three-consecutive birdies from the 13th hole to 15 and capped off her round with a birdie on No. 1.
"She gets off to a rough start and that is the sign she is going to have a great round," joked Mulflur about her stud freshman. "Somehow she just figures out ways to make a lot of birdies.
"It's always good to see players able to bounce back and get on track. She just has a knack for doing it consistently."
Yang and Luo both had even par rounds on the day and both shot 2-under on the back nine. Yang has shot 72-72 to place ninth on the leaderboard.
Luo is +1 for the tournament and is tied for 11th at 145.
Joining Luo with a 145 is Kim. The sophomore shot 75 on the day, which negated her 70 in Monday's first round. Kim was the only Husky over par on the back nine, scoring +3 on the closing holes.
Overall, the Husky five combined to shoot 6-under on holes 10 through 18.
Sophomore Cyd Okino shot 73 and has a score of 147 overall. Okino double-bogeyed her final hole, otherwise she would have joined Luo and Kim in 10th place. Instead, the Honolulu sits tied for 26th.
Denver's Tonje Daffinrud is leading the tournament at 7-under 137. She shot 65 on Tuesday. Pepperdine's Grace Na is one stroke back of Daffinrud.
The teams tee it back up at 7:45 a.m. Hawai'i time.
