KAPALUA, Hawai'i - In the end, their best just wasn't good enough for the Washington women's golf team at the Anuenue Spring Break Classic in Maui.
The Huskies entered Wednesday's final round of the three-day, 54-hole tournament on The Bay Course at Kapalua Resort with a five-shot advantage over UCLA. They shot their best round of the tournament with a 3-under 285, but it still wasn't enough to hold off the Bruins.

UCLA fired a 12-under 276 - highlighted by a course-record tying 65 from Silverdale, Wash. native Erynne Lee - to erase Washington's lead and win the tournament by four shots. No. 11 UCLA ended up scoring 854 (-10), while No. 10 Washington ended up with 858 (-6).
Third-place Arizona State was the only other team that finished in the red at 2-under 862.
Despite the second-place finish, the Huskies will hold their head's high after a stellar second half to their day. For the second-consecutive day, the Washington five combined to shoot 6-under on the back nine. But, a slow start at the beginning of the day might have been the undoing for the Huskies.
"It was a great last day, but we just could not get out of the gate this morning," Husky Coach Mary Lou Mulflur said of her team's start that saw their five-shot advantage disappear in the blink of an eye. "We just put ourselves in a hole."
Three Huskies birdied the No. 1 hole on the course, but the UW five combined for just one other birdie on the entire front nine.
"It was really frustrating to see that because usually somebody starts out pretty well. We were just really slow getting out of the box this morning," said Mulflur.
One Husky that had things going well for the most part all day was SooBin Kim. She led the Huskies efforts, shooting a bogey-free 5-under 67 that included 4-under on the back nine and concluded the tournament with back-to-back birdies. Kim ended up tying for third overall and shot 212 (-4). It was her 7th top-10 finish this season and fifth finish of third or better.
"She has been due for a really good round," Mulflur said of Kim, who is ranked 8th in the Golfstat.com individual rankings. "It's not like she has been playing poorly, but her standards are pretty high. It was nice to see her play so well and have a bogey-free round."
Kim ended up six strokes behind tournament medalist Grace Na of Pepperdine. Na shot a final round 68 to finish at 10 under overall and win by five strokes ahead of Denver's Tonje Daffinrud.
Fellow freshman Charlotte Thomas joined Kim with a top-10 finish - her seventh of the season. She shot a final round 73, but still ended up under par overall at -2 (214). She ended up tied for seventh.
Freshman Ying Luo scored the second-best round of the day among Huskies, carding a 1-under par 71. She finished with a score of 216 (E) and ended up tied for 12th.
Sophomores Jennifer Yang and Cyd Okino both shot 74. Yang ended up tied for 18th at 218 (+2) and Okino tied for 28th at 221 (+5).
The team will remain in Maui through Friday and will partake in a snorkeling excursion on Thursday.
The Huskies final tune up before the Pac-12 Championships comes on April 12-14 at the Lady Sun Devil Invitational. The Pac-12 Championships will be played in Valencia, Calif. from April 22-24.
