ATHENS, Ga. - Washington's Ying Luo shot a 2-over 74 Wednesday in second round action at the NCAA Championship and is tied for 28th at the midway point of the four-day tournament.
Luo, a walk-on freshman from China, made all pars on the front nine of University of Georgia Golf Course and remained even until a bogey on No. 11. She would go on to bogey holes 14 and 16 before a weather system hit the golf course and forced the competitors to the clubhouse.
After a two hour delay, Luo returned to the 17th fairway where she left her ball and calmly stroked a 65-yard wedge shot to within inches of the hole. She would go on to convert her birdie and finish with a bogey.
"That was huge," UW Coach Mary Lou Mulflur said of Luo's approach shot on 17.
"Her ball striking has been good all week. Her putts are just not falling, but she is more than holding her own."
Luo has a two-day total of 2-over 146 (72-74).
No. 1 ranked player Stephanie Meadow of Alabama leads the tournament and is 8-under through 36 holes of play.
Third round action resumes on Thursday morning, with Luo among the morning-wave golfers.
