Dawgs Open 2015 Campaign with 7-0 Sweep over Seattle University

SEATTLE – University of Washington women's tennis head coach Robin Stephenson picked up her first win with the No. 43 Huskies as UW swept Seattle, 7-0, Friday evening at the Nordstrom Tennis Center to open the 2015 spring season.
“I'm pleased with the outcome and I think everybody played well today across the board,” said Stephenson. “On every court that I saw, everybody was doing the right things and they were really executing what we have been working on in practice. As a coach that always what we want to see and I think top to bottom everybody did their job and took care of business.”
The Huskies opened the day by easily taking the doubles point. The pairs of Grace Ysidora/Julija Lukac and Riko Shimizu/Natalie Allen each posted 6-1 wins on court three and two respectively to earn the point for UW. On court one, freshman Miki Kobayashi and Angela Chen registered a 6-3 victory.
In singles action, all six Washington victories came in just two sets with the Dawgs only giving up eight total games. Natalie Allen swept Sara Kwee, 6-0, 6-0, on court six to get the action going followed by Julija Lukac's 6-0, 6-0 win over Madison Maloney at number three singles. Riko Shimizu clinched the match with her 6-0, 6-1 victory against Barbara Carey.
Angela Chen, Grace Ysidora and Miki Kobayashi also picked up wins as the Huskies claimed the match and move to 1-0 on the season.
“I think for the first match our goal for this match was to come out and focus on the things we have been doing in practice and gain some confidence,” added Stephenson. “It was nice to play a home match and to get a win under our belt and be 1-0 to start the season.”
The Huskies now hit the road for over a month first heading to Hawaii to face No. 25 Ole Miss and the University of Hawaii, Jan. 17-18.
