
UW's Run in Singles Ends, Doubles on Deck at Pac-12 Championships

OJAI, Calif. – The first day of the 2015 Pac-12 Women's Tennis Championship for the University of Washington Huskies was highlighted by Elianne Douglas-Miron's run to the round of 16. The junior earned a hard-fought 7-5, 6-4 victory in the round of 32 before falling to 18th ranked and No. 2 seed Chanelle Van Nguyen (UCLA) 6-3, 7-5 in the round of 16, concluding play in singles action for the Dawgs.
Senior Capucine Gregoire wrapped up her singles career as a Dawg in a battle with No. 54 Lauren Marker of Arizona during the round of 32. Gregoire, facing her first ranked opponent of the season, took the first set from Marker 6-2. The nationally ranked Wildcat took set two, 6-4, with set three playing out to a 6-4 win for Marker, despite Gregoire taking each of the six points to deuce.
Riko Shimizu also played in her final singles match in purple and gold as she took on six-seed Desirae Krawczyk out of Arizona State and fell 6-1, 6-0.
The Dawgs continue play at the Pac-12 Championships on Friday with doubles action getting underway at 9 a.m. with Douglas-Miron and Julija Lukac facing three-seed Maegan Manasse and Denise Starr out of California in the championship bracket. Gregoire and Shimizu will retake the court at 9 a.m. as well on a two-match win-streak and will face Alexia Petrovic and Victoria Robertson of Utah.
