
Huskies Defeat Mizzou, Advance To WNIT Final

SEATTLE -- The No. 17-ranked University of Washington women's basketball team used 15 three-point baskets and four double-figure scoring efforts to earn a 79-66 victory over No. 25 Missouri on Thursday (Nov. 17) inside Alaska Airlines Arena. Through three games this season, Washington has knocked down 41 three-pointers.
With the win, the Huskies improve to 3-0 and advance to the Preseason WNIT championship game against No. 1 Notre Dame on Sunday (Nov. 20).
Washington's starters accounted for all 79 points in the game. Senior Chantel Osahor recorded her second double-double of the season with 18 points and 16 rebounds. The Phoenix, Ariz. native was all over the floor, also tallying six assists and a pair of steals. Senior Kelsey Plum led all scorers with 32, including four three-pointers. Plum, who now has 2,508 career points, moved into third all-time in Pac-12 scoring history in the contest. For the third consecutive game, she also led the team in assists with seven.
As a team, Washington shot 43.6 percent (24-of-55) from the floor to Missouri's 44.8 percent (26-of-58). The Huskies held a slight advantage on the boards, 32-31.
Senior Heather Corral and junior Natalie Romeo each recorded four three-pointers en route to 12 points, respectively. Corral also tallied five rebounds and a pair of assists. In the first start of her career, sophomore Hannah Johnson had five points and six rebounds, including her first three-pointer as a Husky.
Washington's trend of outscoring its opponents in the second and third quarters continued tonight, outscoring Mizzou 49-28. The Tigers held a five-point advantage through the first 10 minutes of play before the Huskies used back-to-back three pointers by Corral and Osahor to take the lead in the second quarter and never trailed for the remainder of the game. The Huskies also buckled down defensively, allowing no more than 15 points in the remaining three quarters.
The Huskies will face No. 1 Notre Dame at noon PT on Sunday in the Preseason WNIT championship game. The Irish advanced with a 71-67 win over Green Bay on Thursday night.
