
Washington To Meet Notre Dame In Preseason WNIT Championship

SEATTLE -- After three consecutive wins to open the season, the No. 17-ranked University of Washington women's basketball team will travel to Notre Dame, Ind. to play No. 1 Notre Dame in the Preseason WNIT championship game. The Huskies beat Eastern Washington (100-52), Colorado State (101-68) and Missouri (79-66) to advance to the final.
The last time Washington played a No. 1 ranked team was the 2008-09 season when the Huskies fell to UConn, 109-51.
To advance to the championship game, the Huskies beat Missouri, 79-66, in the semifinals on Thursday (Nov. 17) at home. Washington's starters accounted for all 79 points in the game. Senior Chantel Osahor recorded her second double-double of the season with 18 points and 16 rebounds. The Phoenix, Ariz. native also tallied six assists and a pair of steals.
Senior Kelsey Plum led all scorers with 32, including four three-pointers. Plum moved into third all-time in Pac-12 scoring history in the contest (2,508). For the third consecutive game, she also led the team in assists with seven.
The Huskies are 41-of-85 from three-point range this season, hitting at a .482 clip. Washington hit 10 vs. EWU, then followed with 16 against Colorado State and 15 vs. Mizzou.
Washington remains No. 17 in the latest AP Top 25 poll. Four other Pac-12 teams are also ranked: UCLA at No. 9, Stanford at No. 11, Arizona State at No. 18 and Oregon State at No. 24. In the USA Today Coaches Poll, the Huskies are ranked No. 15.
With its highest ranking since 2003-04, Washington was also selected to finish third in the Pac-12. The Huskies received two first-place votes and garnered 93 points.
Head coach Mike Neighbors is in his fourth season at the helm with an overall record of 72-35. He has built the program into a national contender, leading Washington to its first NCAA Final Four appearance last season and second-straight trip to the NCAA Tournament after an eight-year hiatus.

The No. 1 ranked team in the country returns three starters in Lindsay Allen, Brianna Turner and Kathryn Westbeld from a 2016 team that went 33-2 and won both the ACC regular season and tournament championship for the third year in a row.
The Irish added the Gatorade National High School Player of the Year in Erin Boley and the Naismith National High School Basketball Player of the Year in Jackie Young along with the 2015 MaxPreps National High School Player of the Year, Ali Patberg, who missed last season due to injury.
Through three games, Notre Dame is led by Ogunbowale (20.3 points), Mabrey (12.3), Turner (12.0) and Allen (11.3).
