STANFORD, Calif. --- No. 15 Washington saw its winning-streak snapped at 11 on Saturday, falling 4-0 at No. 5 Stanford in a battle of the lone two undefeated teams remaining in Pac-12 play
The Huskies loss drops their overall record to 16-2, 6-1 in Pac-12 play. The win for Stanford improves its overall record to 16-1, including 7-0 in conference match-ups.
Washington got off to a rough start in the doubles competition, falling in its first two matches before Stanford clinched the point. After a quick 6-1 loss at No. 2 doubles, Stacey Fung and Nika Zupancic were tied 3-3 at No. 1 doubles playing across from the No. 15-ranked duo of Caroline Lampl and Kimberly Yee when Stanford clinched the doubles win with a 6-2 victory at No. 3.
While the singles matches were close, the Huskies battled hard against a Stanford lineup which featured all six players ranked in the ITA Top 100. Stanford would pick up a pair of quick wins at No. 2 and at No. 3 before closing out the match with a win at No. 4 singles.
The loss was the first in nearly two months for Washington, which has lost just two dual matches on the season--both to teams ranked in the Top 5. The Huskies close out the home portion of their schedule this weekend, hosting No. 11 USC on Friday at 1:30 p.m. before welcoming No. 8 UCLA on Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
