Huskies Head To Kansas For Big Weekend Matches

SEATTLE --- Washington heads to the heartland for a pair of big road matches this week, playing at Kansas State on Friday and Kansas on Sunday.
The Huskies (7-2), who stayed pat at No. 23 in the latest ITA Team ratings released on Thursday, are on the road for the second time this season, splitting a pair of matches in Hawaii in January. Washington has won its last three matches including wins over the SEC's Kentucky and the Big Ten's Purdue over the last few weeks.
Washington has three players ranked in the ITA Top 125 singles chart this season: Vanessa Wong (#66), Natsuho Arakawa (#82) and Katarina Kopcalic (#110). Wong and Arakawa are both perfect in singles play in dual matches with matching 9-0 records this spring. Arakawa has won her last 12 singles matches dating back to the fall while Wong's win streak is up to 11-straight.
The Huskies open the weekend Friday in Manhattan, Kansas, taking on the Wildcats of Kansas State. The match is slated to begin at 12:00 pm PT. The Wildcats are off to a 5-2 start and is coming off a hard-fought 4-3 win at Arizona last week. They are 2-0 at home this season with wins over Penn State (5-2) and Missouri (5-0).
Kansas opened the spring with a pair of wins but has dropped its last four-straight coming into the weekend. Sunday's match will be the Jayhawks' first since Feb. 2 when the team lost 7-0 to No. 8 NC State. They are 2-2 at home this season with wins over Drake and Wichita State. The match vs Kansas begins at 10:00 am PT on Sunday.
After its two matches in Kansas, the Huskies return home on Feb. 23, hosting Illinois at Noon.
