Washington Wins Rainbow Wahine Showdown

HONOLULU, Hawaii – The Washington women's basketball (7-0, 0-0) team was named Rainbow Wahine Showdown Champions Sunday night when they defeated host Hawaii (2-5, 0-0 Big West) 58-41 in SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu, Hawaii in the tournament finale.
"I want to thank Laura Beeman and the University of Hawaii for the opportunity to compete in the Rainbow Wahine Showdown. Laura has always done a tremendous job with her team, and as expected, tonight was a hard-fought game," head coach Tina Langley said. "I also want to express gratitude to the people of Honolulu for all the kindness shown during our time on the island of Oahu."
In the first road trip of the season, the Huskies won three games in three days to take the tournament title.
"This is a team that is committed to growing in our daily disciplines and becoming consistent," Langley said. "Playing three games in three days on the road takes a lot of focus, and I'm proud of our attention to detail to prepare for each game."
Dalayah Daniels made a layup to get the scoring started for the Huskies, and kept it going, finishing with a season high 19 points. Daniels also recorded nine rebounds, marking a career milestone with rebound No. 500. She also added two blocks.
Sayvia Sellers was the other Husky in double digits, scoring 10 points.
Jayda Noble already had two steals in the first quarter, and finished with seven points and five rebounds.
The Huskies went into halftime with the 25-23 lead, holding Hawaii to a 26.9% field goal percentage.
A jumper from Hannah Stines started the scoring in the second half.
Washington went on 7-0 run to end the third quarter to send the Huskies into the final frame with a 43-33 lead. In the fourth quarter, UW went on another 7-0 run to extend the lead.
Lauren Schwartz finished with nine points, and Elle Ladine finished with eight points and six rebounds.
The Huskies held Hawaii to shooting 27.7%, under their average so far this season, and out-rebounded the Rainbow Wahine 36-27.
Dalayah Daniels and Hannah Stines were named to the five-person All-Tournament Team, while Lauren Schwartz was named Tournament MVP.
Up next, Washington returns home to take on San Francisco on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 1 p.m. PT in Alaska Airlines Arena.
