Huskies Earn 196.250 In Close Battle With Iowa
January 12, 2024 | Gymnastics
IOWA CITY – The Washington gymnastics team fought until the very end of Friday night's dual matchup with the Iowa Hawkeyes, narrowly coming in second with a score of 196.250 to the Hawkeyes' 196.400.
Tonight's meet marked just the fourth time these two teams have faced each other, and the first time in a dual meet. Washington had outscored the Hawkeyes in all previous meetings.
Where the GymDawgs struggled last weekend were amongst some highlights of tonight, including a team bars score of 49.125 to start the evening.
Washington lost their lead with the second rotation when they weren't able to find their rhythm on vault, only earning one 9.8+ individual score.
The last two events helped keep the numbers tight, with the GymDawgs earning a 49.050 on the floor.
Caitlin McWilliams etched a career-high 9.850 on her floor exercise to match Skylar Killough-Wilhelm for a team-high on the event.
Outscoring the Hawkeyes on beam with an impressive 49.325 was almost enough to take a late lead, but the Hawkeyes earned their highest score on their final event with a 49.300 on floor.
The Beam Dawgs were led by Killough-Wilhelm who matched her career-best 9.925 on the event.
Taylor Russon notched a new career-high on beam with a 9.875 and Chelsea Hallinan and Emily Innes both put up 9.850s for the Huskies.
