
No. 21 GymDawgs Compete In Second Annual Super 16 Meet

LAS VEGAS – The 2024 NCAA gymnastics season is officially underway as the Washington gymnastics team wrapped up the Mean Girls Super 16 Gymnastics Championships this afternoon at Orleans Arena.
The GymDawgs earned a 195.000, finishing third in session one of this weekend's competition. No. 10 Denver, which wrapped up the 2023 season at No. 8 in the Road to Nationals rankings, won today's meet with a 196.825, Illinois finished second with a 195.725 and San Jose State rounded out the afternoon at 194.950.
Washington started on vault, which was their strongest event of the afternoon, earning a 49.025.
Emily Innes took the first vault of the 2024 gymnastics season and handled the pressure with ease, earning a career-high score of 9.875.
Innes finished third overall on vault with her 9.875, and was followed up shortly by teammates Lana Navarro (9.825) and Skylar Killough-Wilhelm (9.850), who finished in a tie for fourth.
The Huskies weren't able to follow up their strong opening performance on vault, earning a 48.150 on the unevens.
Olivia Oppegard led the way with a 9.850 and Lilly Tubbs contributed a 9.825 in the anchor position.
In her first collegiate routine, Chelsea Hallinan finished third overall with a 9.875 on the beam. She was followed up Killough-Wilhelm who notched a 9.850.
On the last rotation, three Huskies tied for a third-place finish, with Innes, Killough-Wilhelm and Emily Pires all earning a 9.800 on floor.
NEW FACES ON THE FLOOR
In her first meet as a GymDawg, Kristin Lin debuted on vault, bars and floor.
Fellow freshmen McKenna Carnesi (vault) and Mary McDonough (bars) debuted in exhibition routines, and Hallinan led off the Huskies on beam.
Newcomer Emily Pires earned a 9.800 on her first floor exercise as a Husky.
In addition to today's lineups, four GymDawgs performed exhibition routines: Carnesi (vault), McDonough (bars), Lilly Tubbs (beam) and Taylor Russon (floor).
