Huskies Complete Road Sweep With 84-75 Win Over Illinois

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Washington women's basketball team finished its first Big Ten road trip of the season 2-0, taking down Illinois inside State Farm Center on Tuesday afternoon.
The Huskies (11-4, 2-1 Big Ten) were led by Sayvia Sellers who played all 40 minutes, finishing with a team-high 24 points, including a career-high five three-pointers and four rebounds. Tuesday was her fifth 20-point game of the season.
Washington handed Illinois (11-3, 1-2 Big Ten) its first loss at home this season as the Fighting Illini dropped to 9-1 in Champaign.
Dalayah Daniels finished with her second straight double-double, dropping 16 points and 12 rebounds while shooting 8-of-12 from the field.
Teagan Brown delivered 10 points (4-of-5) off the bench for the Huskies, who had 23 bench points to Illinois' two. Every UW player who saw action scored at least six points.
Hannah Stines added eight points and four assists, while Tayra Eke and Chloe Briggs each added seven points.
Brenna McDonald and Elle Ladine each scored six.
After finishing the first quarter 21-21, Washington took a three-point lead heading into halftime.
UW shot 51.5 percent from the field in the first half and 60 percent from three (6-for-10), on the way to 11 three-pointers in the game, the second most by the Dawgs this year.
Brown registered two back-to-back threes in the second quarter, both on assists from Stines.
Both teams were hot offensively in the opening 20 minutes, with the Dawgs and Illinois both shooting over 50 percent and trading baskets much of the second quarter.
All of Briggs' seven points came in the third quarter, including a four-point play as the Dawgs outscored Illinois 24-20 in the third.
The Fighting Illini narrowed the Husky lead to two in the fourth as the game got as close as 74-72 Washington, but UW used a 10-3 run in the closing minutes to run away 84-75.
The Dawgs shot 54.9 percent overall, their second highest shooting percentage of the season. Washington's 55 percent from three was its highest mark of the year.
On this road trip against Northwestern and Illinois, the Huskies shot 53 percent from the field and 47.7 percent from three.
The Huskies will open up 2025 with a home game against Wisconsin on Tuesday, Jan. 7. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. on Big Ten Network.
The game's themes will be Girly Pop Night and Welcome Back Dawg Pack Night.
