
Huskies Split Day One Of South Florida Showdown

TAMPA, Fla. – No. 4 Washington split the opening day of the South Florida Showdown, falling to No. 7 Oklahoma State (0-7) in the opener before getting the win over host South Florida (2-1) on Thursday at USF Softball Stadium.
The Huskies move to 9-2 on the season.
#7 OKLAHOMA STATE 7, #4 WASHINGTON 0
Lindsay Lopez (3-1) got the start, throwing 4.1 innings with four strikeouts. Sidne Peters came on in relief and struck out five.
After four scoreless innings, Oklahoma State broke through with three runs in the fifth. The Cowgirls added four runs in the seventh.
Brooklyn Carter and Rylee Holtorf recorded hits in the contest.
#4 WASHINGTON 2, SOUTH FLORIDA 1
Ruby Meylan (4-1) recorded her third complete game in picking up her fourth win of the season. Meylan struck out six in the outing, her fourth game in a row with six or more strikeouts and fifth in the last six games.
Kinsey Fiedler got the scoring started with a first pitch home run to start the third, her second of the season, to give the Dawgs the lead.
Brooke Nelson followed with her second home run of the week to give the Huskies a two-run cushion in the fifth. It was the third time this season Washington has hit two home runs in a game.
USF loaded the bases with back-to-back-to-back hits with no outs in sixth. The Huskies were able to get out of the inning allowing only one run.
South Florida tried for another rally in the sixth with a one-out single, but the Husky defense retired the final two batters to pick up the first win of the South Florida Showdown for UW.
Washington continues action at the South Florida Showdown tomorrow against Pitt (8:30 a.m. PT) and Loyola Chicago (11 a.m. PT). There will be no stream for the games.
