February 24, 2024 | Softball
TAMPA, Fla. – Head coach Heather Tarr earned her 800th career victory in No. 4 Washington's 8-0 run-rule over Yale on Saturday night at USF Softball Stadium.
The Huskies finished their Florida road trip with a record of 9-1 to move to 12-2 overall on the season.
Ruby Meylan matched a career-high with 12 strikeouts to pick up her fifth win and goes to 5-1 overall. She allowed only one hit with three walks. Meylan has eight career games with 10 or more strikeouts, the ninth most in program history.
Jillian Celis led the Huskies with four RBI on the night with two doubles and a walk. Brooklyn Carter, Jadyn Glab and Alana Johnson also recorded two hits.
Back-to-back singles by Glab and A. Johnson in the second put the Huskies in business early. A play at third to get Glab went wide allowing her to score on the error. Washington was able to load the bases and Celis followed with a walk to bring across the second run.
In the fourth, Sydney Stewart and Carter reached with one out for Celis to hit her first of two doubles to extend the lead to four. Rylee Holtorf hit her second home run of the weekend, giving the Huskies a 5-0 advantage.
After a leadoff single in the sixth by Carter, Celis brought her in on her second double. Nelson reached on a fielder's choice to put runners on the corners with one out. Jing Gardner recorded her first career RBI on a sacrifice squeeze to plate the seventh run. A. Johnson gave the Huskies the run-rule victory with her double.
Washington heads to Eugene, Ore. for the Jane Sander Classic beginning on Thursday. The Huskies will face Mount St. Mary's (two games), Maryland and Florida State over three days. To view the entire 2024 schedule, click here.
