SEATTLE – Led by third-year Head Coach Rahim Esmail, Washington Men's Tennis opens up its 2025 dual season campaign at home this weekend at the Nordstrom Tennis Center. The Dawgs dive right in with a double-header this Saturday, Jan. 18, hosting Seattle U. at 11 a.m. followed by Portland State at 3 p.m. Admission is free for all fans and the matches will be streamed on GoHuskies.com.
The Huskies start the year with their first seven matches at home before they enter into their first season of Big Ten play in March. Washington is looking to improve upon last year's 9-15 overall record, and has an experienced roster to do so, with five of seven regular singles starters back from a year ago, led by seniors Cesar Bouchelaghem, Dzianis Zharyn, and Nedim Suko.
Bouchelaghem capped the fall season with his first NCAA Singles Championship appearance, reaching the second round, to go into 2025 ranked 49th nationally in singles. Zharyn ranks No. 76 heading into his senior season. As a doubles duo, the pair also ranked No. 38, and junior Brett Pearson and sophomore Ivan Sodan are ranked 79th in doubles.
Washington has also added four men to the squad this year. Sophomore transfer Soham Purohit, a Kirkland, Wash. native, returned home after a strong freshman year at Purdue. Then a trio of freshmen will look to make an impact. Rohan Belday (West Orange, N.J.) and Nikola Plavsic (Redmond, Wash.) have been with the team since the start of fall quarter. The newest addition, Stephanie Kamendje from Montreal, Canada, just joined the team at the start of winter quarter.
