February 16, 2025 | Men's Tennis
SEATTLE - The Huskies took down the Portland Pilots with a 6-1 final score today for their last match in a seven straight home match run.
Nedim Suko and Soham Purohit took their match in the doubles round 6-3, followed shortly by Cesar Bouchelaghem and Dzianis Zharyn winning 6-4. This gave the Huskies a 1-0 lead going into the singles round.
Wins from Purohit, Bouchelaghem and Zharyn clinched the win for the Huskies in singles play. With all matches going to completion, UW took three out of the four remaining matches as well, ending in a 6-1 win for Washington. Stephane Kamendje won his match in a close tie-break 5-7, 7-6 (4), (7).
"We worked this week towards being prepared for today and being ready to compete. To compete as a team and to compete as individuals as well and not just focus on our own games on the court but focus on the total team effort," said Head Coach Rahim Esmail.
"We've gained a lot of confidence in these first few weeks being at home and I think the guys have got in some great training and some great match play so I think this has really helped us build some confidence and kind of helped us build towards the team we keep trying to be."
Next up, the Dawgs head on the road for the Arizona State Invitational playing on February 28 and March 1.
