Huskies Take Down Oklahoma State in Nail Biter
February 08, 2025 | Men's Tennis
SEATTLE - The Huskies took down the Oklahoma State Cowboys today in their closest match of the season so far.
Tight matches in the doubles round led to a Huskies 1-0 lead. Nedim Suko and Soham Purohit took their match 6-4. The packed Nordstrom Tennis Center cheered on Brett Pearson and Rohan Belday as they secured the doubles round in a tie-break match ending 7-6 (7).
The singles round didn't prove to be any easier with close matches across the board. Huskies Cesar Bouchelaghem took down No. 57 Issac Becroft in a 6-4, 6-1 match. Wins from Rohan Belday and Soham Purohit followed, securing the 4-0 win for the Huskies. The remaining matches were all close, all going into third sets.
"Sometimes an overall score can be deceiving when you look at 4-0 but that's a battle on every single court today and we had to earn every inch of it," said UW Head Coach Rahim Esmail.
"We knew it was going to be a battle. They are a very well coached team and they are a very good team and I really thought it was a dead even match and I'm just happy to come out on top."
Next up, The Huskies will take on Portland on Saturday, February 16 at home.
