April 12, 2025 | Women's Tennis
EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Washington women's tennis team (17-2, 9-1 Big Ten) matched its win total from last season with three matches still left to play as the Huskies swept No. 58 Michigan State 4-0 on Saturday.
With the fourth Big Ten sweep of the season, the Huskies improve to 9-0 on the road and 9-1 in league play, the most conference wins at least since the Pac-10 fully integrated in 1998.
The Huskies clinched doubles with wins on courts one and three. Alexia Jacobs and Reece Carter nearly blanked MSU's top doubles team with a 6-1 win as Carina Syrtveit and McKenna Koenig pulled off a 6-4 victory to clinch the point.
Sophie Luescher and Erika Matsuda were on their way back from down a handful of games and had tied it up at 5-5 before their match was abandoned.
The Huskies have won the doubles point 15 times this season, including five straight against conference opponents.
Syrtveit earned her 13th singles win of her freshman campaign, courtesy of a 6-4, 6-4 victory on court six over MSU's Oriana Parkins-Godwin.
"So happy and proud of how we came out today and competed," Syrtveit said. "We had so much fun on the court and were confident in our shot selections. So lucky to be a part of this team and achieving growth together with the best people."
Matsuda improved to 7-2 at No. 2 singles with a win over Michigan State's Ellie Blackford, 6-3, 6-4 before Koenig clinched the match for the Huskies at No. 4 with her 10th singles victory of the year.
The Huskies push their Big Ten momentum into a match against No. 5 Michigan tomorrow at 8 a.m. PT. in Ann Arbor, Mich.
