SEATTLE โ The Huskies took game one against the Trojans on Thursday night, a 5-3 victory that kept Washington's hopes of a top-four seed in the Big Ten Tournament alive. With the win, the Diamond Dawgs secured their spot at the conference tournament in Omaha, Neb. next week.

The Dawgs started the game on a legendary note as AJ Guerrero tallied his 265th hit as a Husky in the first inning, officially moving him to number one all-time in career hits at UW.

Washington used yet another six-inning start from Max Banks to get the Huskies in position to win the game. The senior ace allowed three runs while fanning three batters and kept the Dawgs in position to win the game.

The Trojans jumped out to a 3-0 lead by the end of the third, but scoreless fourth, fifth, and sixth innings from Banks allowed the Huskies to claw back into the game.

In the fifth, Trevor Kole doubled to push Jackson Hotchkiss to third base. From there, Hotchkiss scored on a wild pitch before Casen Taggart drove in Kole with an RBI single to put the Huskies within one.

Then in the sixth, Malakhi Knight launched his fifth home run of the season, a three-run shot to left field to put Washington into the lead.

Josh Emanuels took over for Banks in the seventh and eighth innings, and he was dominant. The senior struck out three batters in his two innings of work while allowing only a single hit.

Then Isaac Yeager came on to finish the game. The right-hander threw 12 pitches, 10 of which were strikes to retire the side in order. He tallied one strikeout while forcing two flyouts from the Trojans.

Despite being outhit 11-5, the Huskies made the most of their opportunities. USC ultimately left 10 runners stranded compared to Washington's two.
