ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Washington claimed the win on Sunday over Michigan, taking the series finale 7-5.
The Huskies improve to 19-24 on the year and 9-12 in Big Ten play.
Michigan struck first with a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first inning, but the Huskies punched back in the third. Braeden Terry blasted a towering two-run home run to right field to put Washington in front.
It was Terry's third home run of the season, and he launched it 408 feet. The Huskies ended the frame in front 2-1 and would maintain the lead for the remainder of the contest.
Mic Paul added another Husky homer in the following inning, tagging a solo shot to right field. Paul's third home run of the season went 372 feet and gave the Huskies a two-run advantage.
After a sacrifice fly from DeCarlo made it 4-1 in favor of Washington, the Wolverines found some offense. They scored one run in the fifth and one in the sixth to bring it back to a one-run game.
Washington responded in the seventh, however, scoring three runs to extend the lead to four. Aidan Dougherty punctuated the inning with an RBI single to conclude the Husky scoring on the day.
Michigan scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth, but Tommy Brandenburg was able to keep the Wolverines at bay and preserve the win for Washington.
Hayden Lewis was credited with the win, going 6.0 innings with nine hits allowed, three runs, one walk, and three strikeouts.
Jack Wade and Tommy Brandenburg combined to throw the final three innings, giving up a combined one hit, two runs with five walks and two strikeouts.
The Huskies will conclude their road trip at Eastern Michigan on Tuesday at 9 a.m. PT for a midweek matchup.
