Barton, Hunt Named Preseason All-Big Ten
July 24, 2025 | Volleyball
SEATTLE – With just over a week until report day, and little more than a month until the season opener, the stage is beginning to be set for the Husky Volleyball season. The Preseason All-Big Ten Team and the Big Ten Preseason Coaches Poll were announced today by the conference office, with Huskies Kierstyn Barton and Julia Hunt both getting the preseason picks.
Washington was voted eighth in the Big Ten Coaches Poll. Last year, UW was voted 13th in the preseason poll, but went on to finish ninth out of the 18 teams in its first year in the league. The Huskies were one of the nine conference teams to make the 2024 NCAA tournament.
The Huskies are one of just six teams with multiple Preseason All-Big Ten selections.
Barton, a junior outside hitter, was Washington's top attacker last year in kills per set, with 3.32, while hitting .250. She was named to the All-Big Ten Second Team at season's end, despite missing a large amount of the season due to an injury. Barton led the team in kills in 11 of the 17 matches she competed in, and she had double-digit kills in 13 of 17 matches, while also ranking second on the team with 2.35 digs per set.
Hunt was named to the All-Big Ten Freshman Team last year and was also the AVCA Pacific North Region Freshman of the Year. The sophomore middle blocker led the Huskies with a .330 attack percentage, averaging 1.70 kills per set and her 1.18 blocks per set also led the team. Hunt also was a strong server, ranking third on the team with 27 aces. She had double-digit kills in six matches.
The Dawgs report for the first day of practice on August 2. The team has a home exhibition match schedule against Portland on Aug. 22 at 6 p.m. and the season opens officially in the state of Colorado on Friday, Aug. 29, against Northern Colorado. The home opener comes on Sept. 12 against Arizona at Alaska Airlines Arena.
