Huskies Bag Four In Dominant Dub Over Idaho
August 17, 2025 | Women's Soccer
SEATTLE – Samiah Shell's first half goal put the Huskies up at the break before UW blew things open in the second half as the Washington women's soccer team picked up its first win of the season Sunday, topping Idaho 4-0 at Husky Soccer Stadium.
Washington outshot the Vandals 15-6 in the match, putting eight of its attempts on target. While the goalkeeping duo of Tanner Ijams and Malie Chamberland only faced six shots, four forced Husky saves.
With the Dawgs dominating possession pretty much right from the opening whistle, Shell got the Huskies on the scoreboard in the 20th minute with a missile from distance, bending a shot with her right perfectly just off the inside of the post and in.
The Huskies came out of the halftime break up a goal and from there only added to the lead.
Jadyn Holdenried doubled the advantage in the 53rd minute with a strike from distance of her own, blasting a left footed banger past Paula Flores to the right side of goal.
Just minutes later, Holdenried and Shell combined to make it 3-0 in favor of the Dawgs. Holdenried once again let loose a shot from outside the 18 and Shell met it with the deftest of touches right in front of goal, diverting the ball past a charging Flores.
The fourth and final goal of the game came off the right foot of senior Avery Nguyen, hitting a deflection on the volley and hitting the side netting. It was the first career goal as a Husky for Nguyen, who joined the Dawgs from the UW club team ahead of her sophomore season.
From there, Washington was able to salt away the final 20-plus minutes with ease, moving to 1-0-1 on the early season.
The Huskies will remain at home Thursday to close out a three-match homestand to open the season, facing Long Beach State for a 7:00 p.m. PT kickoff at Husky Soccer Stadium. The match will be available for streaming on B1G+.
