World Champs Recap: Eight Huskies Earn Medals
September 29, 2025 | Men's Rowing, Women's Rowing
Washington Rowing alumni earned a total of eight medals over the past week at the 2025 World Rowing Championships in Shanghai.
The Husky contingent was led by five Americans who earned medals. Teal Cohen won gold in the women's four. The U.S. women's pair featured two Huskies – Jess Thoennes and Holly Drapp – who won the bronze medal. There were also two UW alumni in the bronze medal-winning U.S. men's eight: Pieter Quinton and Madison Molitor.
Archie Drummond, who wrapped up his UW career this past spring, won a silver medal in the British men's eight in his first-ever World Championship regatta. International veteran Aisha Rocek, who will now return to UW for her senior year, earned a silver in the mixed eight, a new event at the World Championships that features crews made up of four men and four women.
Another veteran international, Gert-Jan van Doorn of the Netherlands, wrapped up the Husky haul, earning the Bronze in the men's four.
A total of 23 Huskies traveled to the regatta, held in China for the first time (the 2021 World Championships were scheduled for Shanghai, but were canceled due to the pandemic).
Ten of those 23 competed in more than one race category.
