SEATTLE (AP) – Nikola Dzepina scored a career-high 27 points, LeJuan Watts had 22 points, and Washington defeated Colgate 90-76 in its season-opener Monday night at Alaska Airlines Arena.

Dzepina, who did not reach double digits in any game last season and totaled just 37 points in his first season on Montlake, made 10-of-17 shots and 6-of-7 free throws to go with seven rebounds.

Watts, making his Husky debut, attempted only six shots, making three. He converted 14-of-16 free throws as the Huskies went 30-for-36 at the line as a team.

Colgate led 33-28 with 4 minutes left in the first half before three-pointers from Ryan Beasley and Wesley Yates III gave the Huskies a one-point lead before Yates hit another three-pointer for a 43-38 halftime lead.

From there, Dzepina took over to start the second half. The Serbian internation scored 18 of UW's first 23 points after the restart, building the Husky lead to 66-53 with 10:03 remaining.

Washington was able to keep its lead in double figures the rest of the way, knocking down its final eight free throws to close out the season-opening win at home.

The Huskies will have a week off before returning to action at home on Monday, Nov. 9 at Hec Ed, facing Mississippi Valley State at 7:00 p.m. PT on the Big Ten Network.
