Huskies Out-Dueled At UCLA 77-73

LOS ANGELES – Washington pushed UCLA to the end but ultimately fell on the road 77-73 on Saturday night at Pauley Pavilion.
Quimari Peterson scored eight consecutive points in the final 90 seconds and a Wesley Yates III and-one conversion made the score 73-71 before the Bruins made the rest of their free throws to close out the game.
Yates scored 12 of UW's first 16 points, starting the game a perfect 4-for-4. It was his fourth-straight game with double digit points at halftime. He finished with 21 points.
The Huskies did not trail for the majority of the opening twenty minutes and led at halftime for the first time at UCLA since the 2020-21 season.
The Bruins put the Huskies in the bonus with over 10 minutes remaining in the second half when Xavier Booker and Tyler Bilodeau both picked up their fourth fouls.
Lathan Sommerville made two free throws to pull UW within one at 54-53. Sommerville finished with 10 points.
UCLA hit a pair of threes to build a six-point lead and, after the teams exchanged buckets, the Bruins pulled in front by nine with 1:37 to go, forcing UW to foul.
The Huskies outscored the Bruins 44-18 in the paint.
For the second consecutive game, UW shot over 50 percent.
Peterson finished with 12 points and seven assists. Zoom Diallo also dished out seven assists.
