Slow Start Plagues Washington In 90-73 Loss To Wisconsin
February 28, 2026 | Men's Basketball
SEATTLE – The Washington men's basketball team fell behind 17-4 early on in Saturday's matchup with Wisconsin and were unable to climb out of the hole, falling to the Badgers 90-73 at Alaska Airlines Arena.
During the game, the Huskies celebrated the career of all-time great Detlef Schrempf, who's No. 22 jersey was retired during a halftime ceremony. Several Seattle legends entered the hallowed halls of Hec Ed, including Seattle Supersonics legends Gary Payton, Shawn Kemp and Sam Perkins.
Hannes Steinbach and Zoom Diallo combined to score 43 of UW's 73 points on the day. Steinbach also pulled in 11 rebounds, his 18th double double of the season to match Jared Sullinger for the most by a Big Ten freshman since 1996-97.
A major key to the game was the Badgers' red-hot shooting behind the arc, with Wisconsin knocking down 17 threes compared to just four for the Huskies.
Washington briefly pulled within single digits midway through the first, 22-14, but a late run from the Badgers pulled ahead 36-21 at the intermission.
While Diallo and Steinbach did their best to trade blows with the Badgers in the second half, racking up 16 and 14 points, respectively, the UW defense was unable to cool the Wisconsin offense, with a late 7-0 Husky run merely pulling the deficit to within 17.
