April 18, 2026 | Beach Volleyball
SEATTLE – No. 19 Washington beach volleyball closed out the regular season at the Alki Beach Invitational with a 3-1 record, earning wins over Portland and No. 15 Florida Atlantic on Friday. On Saturday, the Beach Dawgs fell to Boise State before bouncing back with a win over Oregon.
Washington opened the weekend strong, sweeping Portland 5-0 behind a dominant showing across the lineup. The 3s set the tone early with a decisive 21-9, 21-10 win from Niki Egan and Mariana Tomasova, finishing first. The 2s followed as Ella Tyus and Sarah Wilcock handled business in straight sets, while the 4s and 5s added two more straight-set victories to clinch the dual. The 1s battled back after dropping the first set, as Emma Hohenauer and Katarina Pantovic rallied for a three-set comeback win to complete the sweep.
The Dawgs carried that momentum into their second match of the day, taking down No. 15 Florida Atlantic, 4-1. After dropping the point at the 1s, Washington responded with four straight wins. Tyus and Wilcock picked up a key straight-set win at the 2s, while Egan and Tomasova delivered a gritty three-set comeback at the 3s. Brown and Hay stayed consistent with another straight-set victory at the 4s, and Avery Towne and Alina Urzua secured the dual with a clutch three-set win at the 5s.
On Saturday, Washington came up just short in a tightly contested 3-2 battle against Boise State. Egan and Tomasova continued their strong weekend with a straight-set win at the 3s, while Brown and Hay remained perfect, earning another commanding victory at the 4s. The dual came down to the wire, but Boise State edged out wins at the 1s, 2s, and 5s to take the match.
Washington battled past Oregon, 3-2, winning three tightly contested matches to secure the dual. Emma Hohenauer and Katarina Pantovic clinched the victory at the No. 1 spot with a 21-17, 19-21, 15-9 win, while Ella Tyus and Sarah Wilcock grinded out a 27-25, 21-17 straight-set victory at No. 2. Mayamay Brown and Ellis Hay added the third point for the Dawgs with a comeback three-set win (18-21, 21-17, 15-9) at No. 4. Oregon picked up points at No. 3 and No. 5, but Washington's ability to win two of the three matches that went to a third set proved to be the difference in the 3-2 result.
Head Coach Steve McFadden was also recognized during the match with a commemorative ball marking his first win as head coach, a 5–0 sweep of Vanguard on February 20
