
Washington Splits Four Matches at MPSF Championship Weekend

Washington opened the championship with a strong 3-1 win over No. 9 seed Oregon. The Dawgs earned three points first, securing the dual behind three straight-set victories to take control early, beginning with Niki Egan and Mariana Tomasova at the 3s (21-13, 21-16). Mayamay Brown and Ellis Hay followed with a dominant 21-16, 21-10 win at the 4s, and Ella Tyus and Sarah Wilcock clinched the victory at the 2s with a 21-16, 21-18 finish. Oregon picked up its lone point at the 1s, while the 5s match went unfinished with Washington leading late in the second set. With the win, the Huskies advanced in the MPSF Championship bracket.

In the second match of the day, Washington faced No. 1 seed Stanford and fell 3-0, with Stanford earning straight-set wins at the 1s, 2s, and 3s. Emma Hohenauer and Katarina Pantovic fell 21-17, 21-15 at the 1s, while Tyus and Wilcock dropped a tight first set before falling at the 2s (21-19, 21-13). Egan and Tomasova battled at the 3s but came up short, 21-16, 21-19. The 4s and 5s matches were left unfinished.
Washington bounced back on Thursday with a 3-0 sweep over No. 10 seed San José State. The Dawgs earned three points, starting with Avery Towne and Alina Urzua at the 5s (21-19, 21-13), followed by Egan and Tomasova at the 3s (21-14, 21-13), and Hohenauer and Pantovic at the 1s (23-21, 21-16). The 2s and 4s matches were left unfinished with Washington leading at the time of the clinch. With the win coming in the elimination round, Washington secured its spot to advance in the MPSF Championship bracket.

In the final match of the tournament, Washington fell to No. 5 seed Cal, 3-1. Cal reached three team points first to secure the dual. The Golden Bears took the 1s (21-7, 21-19) and 5s (21-15, 21-17) before Washington responded at the 3s, where Egan and Tomasova earned a 21-10, 21-18 win. Cal clinched the match at the 4s with a 21-17, 21-17 victory, while the 2s match was left unfinished after splitting sets, ending Washington's run in the MPSF Championship.
Across the two-day tournament, Washington posted a 2-2 record, earning two sweeps and seven total court wins across completed matches. Egan and Tomasova led the way with a 3-1 record at the 3s, while the Huskies showed depth with multiple straight-set victories throughout the lineup.
